Meredith joined CNSI as INSCITES Coordinator in June 2006. She received her Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at UCSB where she discovered a novel mechanism of protein fiber formation. During her graduate studies she was awarded the prestigious Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Fellowship by the National Academies in Washington DC. At the Academies, she worked at the Marian Koshland Science Museum on exhibit and website development to promote communication and teaching of science. Meredith holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Boston University and M.A. in Chemistry from University of Texas at Austin, and has several years of industry experience at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
"I am a believer of the transforming promise of science and technology: not only in terms of how specific discoveries and inventions affect our society, but also in the power of the scientific method and critical thinking that are hallmarks of great science and how science can be applied in daily life. I find the interplay between science and society very interesting, especially how science and technology are involved in politics, economics, government, privacy, and personal decision-making. The INSCITES program offers students an exciting opportunity to examine these issues in depth, as well as provides students with a familiarity of basic scientific principles in order to understand modern technologies."
