What's New at CNSI

New Faculty and Staff

The CNSI community has grown in recent months with the addition of Professors: Michael Chabinyc (Materials), Chris Palmstrom (ECE), Jamie Thomson (Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology), Luke Theogarajan (ECE), and Megan Valentine (Mechanical Engineering), plus CNSI staff members: Lauren Linn (Events and Visitor Coordinator) and Lynne Leininger (Acting Financial Assistant). (More...)

Shared Facilities

A number of shared laboratory facilities are being designed to assist researchers with nanofabrication and analysis. The CNSI continues to develop its Biological Nanostructures Lab (BNL), Chemical Nanostructures Lab (CNL), and NanoStructures Cleanroom Facility (NCF). (More...)

New CNSI Website Now Live

The CNSI website underwent a major structural and design overhaul prior to its re-launch in September. The new site includes new expanded research, facilities and administrative areas providing information to better serve the CNSI community. (More...)

Program Highlights

UCSB SACNAS Chapter Selected as National Chapter of the Year

Center For Polymers And Organic Solids (CPOS) Joins CNSI

The Center for Polymers and Organic Solids (CPOS) is a nano-science center with on-going research in areas such as the design of large molecules, the fabrication of multilayer thin film photonic devices, and the creation of nano-materials for achieving efficient organic bulk heterjunction photovoltaic cells. The length scales involved in the bulk heterojunction solar cells range from one nanometer (C60) to tens of nm (morphology features). The noticeable linkage between the CPOS and the CNSI is exemplified by the fact that the currently funded CPOS faculty members perform nanoscience research and are members of the CNSI. The transfer of this program in April of this year was a natural evolution in the growth of the CPOS to build a stronger connection to the CNSI both scientifically and operationally.

CPOS Co-Directors: Professors Guillermo Bazan and Fred Wudl
CPOS Founding Director: Professor Alan Heeger
