The Center for Polymers and Organic Solids (CPOS) is a nano-science center with on-going research in areas such as the design of large molecules, the fabrication of multilayer thin film photonic devices, and the creation of nano-materials for achieving efficient organic bulk heterjunction photovoltaic cells. The length scales involved in the bulk heterojunction solar cells range from one nanometer (C60) to tens of nm (morphology features). The noticeable linkage between the CPOS and the CNSI is exemplified by the fact that the currently funded CPOS faculty members perform nanoscience research and are members of the CNSI. The transfer of this program in April of this year was a natural evolution in the growth of the CPOS to build a stronger connection to the CNSI both scientifically and operationally.
CPOS Co-Directors: Professors Guillermo Bazan and Fred Wudl
CPOS Founding Director: Professor Alan Heeger
