What is intellectual property (IP)? How is it generated? Who owns it? How is it protected? Should you care? This seminar provides an overview of the different types of intellectual property and focuses on issues relevant to university members. Both presenters are members of UCSB’s Technology and Industry Alliances (TIA), which manages UCSB’s intellectual property portfolio and works with industry partners ranging from multi-national corporations to emerging startups interested in creating new, innovative products from UCSB research. Mary, a PhD in Neuroscience, former research scientist, and microscopy facility director, recently joined the office to manage a licensing portfolio and campus
outreach. Sherylle, former concert flutist, JD from UC Berkeley, is a TIA founder, the current director and has extensive experience with development and valuing and use of intellectual property in corporate, startup and academic settings.
