Phage-based Targeting of Contrast Agents to Image Microbial Distributions in vivo

The goal of this study is to develop a generalizable platform for selectively imaging the distribution of specific microbial species in vivo, by coupling receptor-binding proteins from bacteriophage to contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and photoacoustic imaging (PAI), thus directing the contrast to the location of a particular bacterial species in the context of an intact, living animal.
