Analytical Core

The BNL Analytical core houses a variety of analytical instruments such as the Tecan plate reader and Malvern Zetasizer..

Trained users will have keycard access to the lab and will be able to book and use the analytical instruments listed below.

For ease of management, molecular biology instruments located in the BNL are also part of the Analytical core.

Tecan Spark 10M Multimode Plate Reader

The Spark is a multimode plate reader for fluorescence, absorbance, and luminescence measurements. The Spark is equipped with a 4x magnification camera and CO2/O2 control for live cell measurements under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. User-friendly Spark Control software allows users to easily set up and save a custom script. Additional features such as automatic well confluency calculation and automated live/dead cell counting make the Spark a versatile tool for life scientists.

The Tecan M220 plate reader is able to read fluorescence, luminescence and absorbance readings from standard size plates with any well configuration. The system is monochromatic so any excitation/emission or absorbance wavelengths can be used. Protocols can be customized using a simple drag-and-drop scripting interface.

3)mMalvern Zetasizer Nano ZS DLS

The Zetasizer Nano ZS is an instrument that measures size, molecular weight, and zeta potential of small particles suspended in solution using dynamic light scattering (DLS), static light scattering (SLS), and electrophoretic mobility, respectively.

Nanoparticle characterization tool that precisely measures size distribution and concentration of particles suspended in solution using nanoparticle tracking analysis.

The UV-Vis 1800 is a highly precise spectrophotometer, capable of absorbance measurements with a resolution of only 1 nm. It has multiple modules, including photometric, spectrum, and kinetics modes.

The BIACore 3000 allows researchers to perform label-free binding and/or kinetic experiments on biomolecules using surface plasmon resonance.

Peptide Synthesizer

The Prelude X is a fully automated peptide synthesizer capable of generating a variety of peptides, peptoids, and peptidomimetics.

Temperature-controlled shaker

Additional molecular biology and biochemistry tools available for use for a daily recharge rate.
