CNSI Innovation Workshop

The CNSI Innovation Workshop, located in Elings 3430, is a rapid prototyping facility equipped for polymer casting, laser cutting, additive manufacturing, and more.

The Innovation Workshop is run by Dr. Brian Dincau and the Workshop Wizards, a talented crew of undergraduate students. Together, they maintain equipment and provide training to all lab users. Having worked on a variety of projects across biology, engineering, physics, and art – Dr. Dincau and the Wizards are an excellent resource for new and highly-collaborative projects.

If you need to fabricate anything for your research, even if you aren’t sure exactly what yet, please don’t hesitate to reach out! With his long history as an experimentalist, Brian is happy to provide research consultations to help point you in the right direction and accelerate your research trajectory.

The Innovation Workshop is open to all UCSB affiliates working on funded projects, as well as CNSI incubator companies and external companies.

 Machining Hub

The Machining Hub, located in Elings 2442, is an extension of the CNSI Innovation Workshop. The Hub is a galley-style shop with a variety of fabrication equipment. In addition to a full suite of traditional machining tools, the Machining Hub also features a spray booth for painting/coating, as well as a desktop waterjet cutter. This combination allows users to work with a wide range of materials including aluminum, titanium, spring steel, glass, carbon fiber, and rubber.
