Innovation 360
The Innovation 360 workshop features a series of nine (9) modules designed to expose UCSB researchers to the practical characteristics innovations require to be successfully deployed outside of academia, whether through commercialization or "open access" adoption models.
Workshop topics include:
- How industry views academic innovations
- Developing a common language: communicating technical innovations to non-technical stakeholders
- Identifying customer/adopter interest
- Manufacturability, scalability, and soup-to-nuts sustainability
- Assessing the market/user base
- Intellectual property protection to facilitate development and adoption
Each participant will be asked to identify a specific innovation of interest to them. After each workshop module, participants will apply the principles learned to their chosen innovation as a case-study in a flipped classroom format.
New for Fall 2026: Space Innovation 360
Space is no longer a niche domain; it is a foundational pillar of the global economy, national security, scientific progress, and climate resilience, and agencies are increasingly interested in translating academic innovation into space products and services.
This workshop is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the commercialization process for space applications. In addition to learning the principles, each session features academics who have successfully transitioned technologies into the commercial sector and with space and space-adjacent technologies.
